LocalLeaks Takes WikiLeaks Transparency Fight to Local Govt !

Anonymous-sponsored site is “closely modeled on WikiLeaks,” offering users a ” safe, secure – and anonymous way for local government or corporate employees to disclose sensitive information.”

WikiLeaks is obviously the go-to-site for leaking data on entities with national and global implications, but what about sensitive info concerning the local city council or school district board?
Enter LocalLeaks. After 6 months of development done in coordination between the Peoples Liberation Front and Anonymous, the site went live a few days ago.
“This project began as a conversation between members of the Peoples Liberation Front andAnonymous during the defense of WikiLeaks during Operation Justice in December of 2010,” reads a message on the site. “In January of 2011 the PLF launched Operation LocalLeaks to try and bring this important project to fruition. During this phase, the finest hackers in the world were employed to determine the best and safest way to set up such a project.”
LocalLeaks says it’s modeled after WikiLeaks and that it’s main concern is providing a safe and secure means for people to leak sensitive data.
“In both security as well as overall strategy, LocalLeaks is closely modeled on WikiLeaks,” it says. “Our first priority is to provide a safe, secure – and anonymous way for local government or corporate employees to disclose sensitive information. Our team of analysts first carefully screens each submission for a possible trace of the senders identity.”
It also says that it will do it’s best to ensure leaks receive as much press exposure as possible.
“Our second commitment is to ensure that each and every leak receives the maximum exposure possible in order to achieve the most profound political impact for the risks taken by those submitting material,” it continued. “To that end, we work with media outlets all over the world.”
Now it’s time for the Bradley Manning’s of the world to step up and keep an eye on their local govt’s.
Stay tuned.
