Report Finds Cyber Intelligence Lacking in the U.S. !

Homeland security is understandably a hot topic right now as the U.S. remembers the 9/11 terrorist attacks that took place 10 years ago. In light of the aftermath and the advances in technology since then, a new report by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance warns that the U.S. needs to take steps to increase cyber intelligence that can better predict and prevent cyber attacks.
According to the Associated Press, which has read the report scheduled to go live later this month, the potential fallout from cyber warfare has grown leaps and bounds beyond financial and intellectual property loss that companies and government agencies have so far been content to write off as losses.
"The impact has increased in magnitude, and the potential for catastrophic collapse of a company has grown," the report says, adding that businesses may not fully understand or accept the full extent of the threat.
INSA calls the current strategy a "patch and pray" plan, and says it's critical the U.S. come up with better procedures, which includes creating cyber intelligence policies and investing more heavily on cyber research.
The report is also critical of how much the U.S. has outsourced the design and maintenance of computer technology to other countries where cyber enemies may lurk. According to INSA, this practice "is as dangerous as if the United States decided to outsource the design of bridges, electrical grids, and other physical infrastructure to the Soviet Union during the Cold War."
