EA: “It's Totally Conceivable That PC Will Become Our Biggest Platform”

We all know that PC gaming isn't (and never was, for that matter) dying, but we'll raise you one: it's thriving. Everyone – whether big-budget, indie, social, MMO, or what have you – is hopping aboard the PC bandwagon, and even the publishing world's biggest players are starting to take notice. The latest? EA's one-time dark lord turned knight in shining armor, EA.
"The user base is gigantic," EA Games president Frank Gibeau told Gamasutra. "PC retail may be a big problem, but PC downloads are awesome. … The margins are much better and we don’t have any rules in terms of first party approvals. From our perspective, it's an extremely healthy platform. … It's totally conceivable it will become our biggest platform."
So then, now that EA's planted a sloppy wet one on our platform of choice, what's it got planned for the first date? According to Gibeau, a whole lot of free-to-play could definitely be in our immediate future.
"If you look at the way people play in Asia, PC is the model," he said. "I think that free to play model is coming to the west in a big way."
EA, of course, has also taken publishing honors on BioWare's upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is rumored to have cost, well, all the money. If that's not a show of faith, we don't know what is.
